Common Denominator is a not-for-profit, mathematics tutoring organization that helps reinforce basic mathematical skills for middle school students. Common Denominator's unique and structured curriculum focuses on math concepts, word problems, and real-life examples, and incorporates many competitive mathematics-driven games that motivate students to learn. Our program, which is staffed by volunteer tutors, is a free service for the students.
Our tutoring sessions are held on Saturdays in a location on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Supplementary sessions are also held on Wednesday evenings.
Volunteer tutor applications are reviewed on a rolling basis from September to February of every year. Please visit our website at www.cdmath.org/volunteer for more information and to submit a volunteer application.
A note on volunteer commitment:
Tutors attend an average of 2 out of 3 Saturday sessions between September-May, which includes holidays and school breaks. Attending 20 out of 24 scheduled sessions will meet this requirement.
