About Us

The River School is an independent school in Washington, DC, which promotes a specialized model to combine the best practices of early childhood education and deaf education in an inclusive setting. The program incorporates children with hearing loss with their hearing peers in classrooms staffed by master's level educators and speech-language pathologists. The speech pathologist and educator co-teach and support all the children in the classroom. The school is accredited by the Association of Independent Maryland & DC Schools (AIMS). The River School's inclusive program challenges each child to work collaboratively, to think critically, and to develop the confidence to take risks, embrace their curiosity, and find their voice. The River School is located in northwest Washington DC, west of Georgetown, and is convenient to the Maryland and Virginia suburbs. MacArthur Boulevard offers the advantages of a neighborhood setting with a public library, shopping, and parks.
