About Us

Large tutoring agencies experience high turnover rates, most often employing tutors in their career “gap years” and struggling to retain experienced educators, who see the discrepancy between billing rates and their own pay. On the flip side, after school support programs for low-income students often struggle to hire specialized instructors due to lack of funds and over-exerted employees.

After years working in a variety of roles in both corporate and non-profit educational support organisations, Camy decided to establish a tutoring business willing to try something different: for every full-paying student, Camy works with a low-income student on a pay-what-you-can basis. The 50/50 Promise means Camy’s Tutoring is serious about addressing disparities in educational access.

Now, Camy’s tutoring is poised to grow, and aims to become a Worker-owned Co-operative where tutors will be owners of the company. The business model will not only allow the company to retain the best talent, as owners will share in the surplus and in decision making, but will also enable the co-op to espouse the values of equity and collaborative learning right through to its core.

I (Camy) am looking for co-founders to join me in building this co-operative (and in collectively choosing a name).
