    Description

Senior Adults for Greater Education (S.A.G.E.) looking for a 55+ Volunteer to Teach "History of Africa" to Teens

Senior Adults for Greater Education (S.A.G.E.), a local nonprofit organization that connects community members aged 55+ with meaningful volunteer roles in educational settings (www.beasage.org), has a new volunteer partnership with Bucks Learning Cooperative (BLC), a nonprofit, non-traditional learning center that collaborates with high schoolers to create personalized educational paths.

Students at BLC are self-directed, engaged, and eager to learn from real-world mentors. Our partnership with BLC offers a unique chance to work with motivated teens in a non-traditional, student-centered environment. (https://buckslearningcooperative.org/)

We have an opportunity for the history lover this spring semester. We are looking for volunteers to teach a class or a workshop on the history of Africa. BLC will assist with identifying appropriate materials. Typically, the volunteer teacher spends one day (1 to 2 hours) per week leading and guiding high schoolers in the specific language.

We are looking for a person who has the expertise, experience, or passion to lead the students in understanding Africa and its history at the Bucks Learning Cooperative, a non-traditional high school, as a volunteer. This opportunity does not require a teaching certification. It only requires someone who has a passion for historical events in Africa and a willingness to share that passion and experience with high school-aged learners.

Class schedule is TBD and is located at 315 W. Maple Avenue, Langhorne, PA. BLC welcomes volunteers who would like to offer a workshop, teach a short course, or lead a semester-long class. BLC is happy to work with your schedule. By the way, BLC is considered a homeschooling entity and follows the guidelines and direction of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Homeschooling laws.

You don’t need to be a teacher - just someone who enjoys speaking about Africa and who has an enthusiasm for wanting to support our high school-aged students. What do you think? We would be delighted to discuss this volunteer opportunity with you. We'd be very excited to have you as a SAGE volunteer in this inspiring class!
