Enhabit is always seeking compassionate, dependable and caring volunteers to be a part of our hospice care team. It is our mission to maximize the quality of life for our patients and their families. Volunteers are a large part of our daily success in bringing peace and joy to them. Caregivers are tired and patients are lonely.
Caregiver respite - caregivers need to have time away from the home for doctor’s appointment, grocery shopping or just have lunch with family or friend. The volunteer will sit with patient and provide companionship through active compassionate listening, playing cards, listening to music, reading, etc.
Companionship/socialization - This can be reading to a patient (some request scripture), sitting with an unresponsive patient and just being a presence, letter writing, journaling. Some patients like playing cards or working puzzles. Mostly, what we call life review. Patients just like to share about their life. The greatest gift we can give them is to just be present and listen.
All volunteers complete a training in order to understand the hospice philosophy, the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of the patients and families.
