    Description

    Position Summary

    The Vice President for Government Relations is a senior volunteer leadership role responsible for shaping and managing AUSCF’s engagement with federal, state, and local government bodies, including legislative offices and public-sector agencies. This individual will develop advocacy strategies, foster relationships with government partners, and ensure AUSCF’s voice is effectively represented in discussions related to cybersecurity workforce development, education, and community initiatives.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop and lead AUSCF’s overall government relations strategy.
    • Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, legislative offices, and public-sector stakeholders.
    • Monitor relevant policy developments, legislative activity, and public initiatives related to cybersecurity and workforce development.
    • Represent AUSCF in meetings, briefings, and outreach activities with government entities.
    • Prepare policy summaries, position statements, and briefing materials for leadership and partners.
    • Collaborate with AUSCF program leaders to align advocacy priorities with organizational goals.
    • Support the development of educational or informational resources that help government audiences understand AUSCF’s mission and value.
    • Lead and mentor volunteers engaged in government outreach or policy-related projects.
    • Ensure compliance with applicable nonprofit lobbying rules and reporting requirements.

    Qualifications

    • Experience in government relations, public policy, advocacy, or legislative affairs (volunteer or professional).
    • Strong communication, relationship-building, and strategic planning skills.
    • Understanding of public-sector structures and policy processes at federal and state levels.
    • Ability to represent the organization professionally and maintain nonpartisan engagement.
    • Knowledge of cybersecurity, public administration, or related fields is preferred but not required.
    • Ability to manage multiple initiatives and lead a small team of volunteers.
