The Third Place for Kids is a sensory-focused community center in Parker, Colorado, designed especially for neurodivergent and disabled children twelve and under and the families who love them. Our indoor sensory gym, quiet playroom, and parent lounge give kids a chance to explore without judgment while caregivers connect and recharge. It’s a calm, inclusive "third place" between home and school where everyone can belong and feel understood.
Our current needs: Right now we are looking for volunteers to serve in 4-5 hour increments. You will work face-to-face with families and kids with intellectual or developmental delays, keeping the space welcoming and safe. Responsibilities include greeting and checking in guests, enrolling new members, monitoring play zones, resetting equipment, and light cleaning. Just as important, you will listen to family stories, learn what support they need, and act as a clearing house that connects them to resources, advocacy groups, therapy partners, and other community services through warm, personal handoffs.
Why this role is special: You will witness the relief parents feel when they finally find a place that understands them and play a direct part in building that support network. The role allows you to use your clinical skills in a real natural and real-world environment, adds resume or practicum hours, and includes free family memberships for you own kiddos!
Experience we need: At this time, this role requires formal training so we can meet our safety standards and commitments to grants and other funders, so we're looking for anyone with current or past professional experience working with neurodivergent or disabled kids. This can include working as an Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, Speech-Language Pathologist, Registered Behavior Technician, Board Certified Behavior Analyst, therapy assistant, child life specialist, special-education teacher, or a student working toward one of these roles. You’ll also need a clear background check and a commitment to one four to five-hour shift each week for at least three months.
Note: Our facility is not drop-off or childcare, parents and caregivers stay with kiddos at all times.
