    Description

    Tutor for High Schoolers

The Resiliency Collaborative (TRC) is a small, local organization that empowers high schoolers in Wake County to shape a stronger, more connected community through education, leadership, and resilience. We are currently the ONLY organization providing free tutoring and free therapy for youth in Wake County outside of the school environment.

We are in need of Math, Science, and Spanish tutors, with a strong preference for Physics tutors.

The role of a TRC tutor is to provide academic assistance and guidance to students enrolled in the tutoring program. Tutors will support student growth in academic area(s) of concern and demonstrate subject area expertise. Tutors will work with TRC staff to establish a thoughtful approach to each session, set goals with the student, and be prepared with any necessary material. Tutors will indicate the number of hours they are able to work per week, as well as their preferred subject areas. Tutors will be scheduled accordingly. Each tutoring session is one-hour and with the same students each week. It is essential to demonstrate dependability as consistent relationship are extremely important when working with youth.

    Job Duties/Responsibilities:

    1. Complete required training with TRC staff
    2. Be present for each scheduled session (either virtual or in-person)
    3. Be committed to using culturally-responsive pedagogy and ensuring a growth-mindset, youth-first approach in all one’s work
    4. Work to establish rapport with students and show an interest in students’ welfare, perspectives, learning differences, and needs
    5. Come prepared to each session
    6. Encourage good academic habits in students, in addition to teaching content specific material
    7. Keep track of students' progress, collaborating with TRC staff to gather data, making adjustments to your approach as needed.

Our tutors meet with the same students at the same time every week. Tutors pick which high school subject they would be excited to teach. Tutors pick their schedules. Each session is an hour long. We are open to students Monday-Thursday 3-7 pm. Tutors may work in person in our downtown Raleigh location or virtually. Tutors must be able to pass a background check.
