    Description

We are looking for outgoing individuals to join the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum's Volunteer Program!

There are three types of volunteer opportunities:

    • Information Desk volunteers sit at our information desk in the front lobby and answer frequently asked questions about the Library and its operations. Duties include fielding visitor inquiries both in-person and on the phone, helping with wayfinding and answering FAQs about the Kennedy family and museum exhibits.
    • Docents, or tour guides, act as an expert resource for visitors on JFK-related content. They primarily lead formal Highlights tours of the museum exhibits, 60–90 minutes in length. Docents also can lead interactive cart programs in the exhibits focused on specific topics such as the space race, First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, and civil rights. Docents also assist with hands-on activities for family audiences at special events.
    • Gallery Learning volunteers lead hands-on programming in the exhibits to a variety of audiences such as K-12 students, families, special interest groups, and the general public. Programs include gallery carts (which focus on a specific topic), roving, spot talks and maker activities. These volunteers do not give formal tours, but rather, lead informal education programs in the exhibits.

There are a variety of benefits to volunteering at the museum including:

    • Free parking
    • Free admission to other area museums and cultural venues
    • Priority seating at Library events
    • Museum store discounts
    • Opportunity to meet others who enjoy history and museums

    Requirements:

    • New volunteers in any position are required to attend training sessions both on-site and virtual. Training runs in March and April. The type and length of required training differs with each position.
    • Background check: Applicants must pass a background check administered by the National Archives and Records Administration. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, be a United States citizen.
    • Standing: Docents and gallery learning ambassador positions require standing for extended periods of time.
    • Shift: Volunteers will work at minimum one 4 hour shift per week.
    • Volunteers must enjoy working with the public and be enthusiastic and personable to visitors of all ages and backgrounds. Must be comfortable with public speaking.
