    About Mentor A Promise

    Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. Through mentorship, social-emotional learning, academic enrichment, and creative expression, MAP creates safe, consistent, and empowering spaces for young people to thrive.

    Role Overview

    We are seeking a Volunteer Director of Grants to lead MAP’s grant development and fundraising strategy. This role is critical in securing funding that sustains and grows our programs. The Director of Grants will oversee the full grant lifecycle, from identifying opportunities to submitting proposals and reporting outcomes. This position is ideal for an experienced grant writer or development professional who is passionate about equity, youth empowerment, and nonprofit growth.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop and implement MAP’s overall grants strategy to support organizational priorities
    • Research and identify grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government sources
    • Lead the writing, editing, and submission of compelling grant proposals
    • Collaborate with program staff to gather data, stories, and financial information for applications
    • Maintain a grants calendar to track deadlines, submissions, and reporting requirements
    • Ensure compliance with all grant guidelines, contracts, and reporting obligations
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with funders and partners
    • Mentor and guide volunteer grant writers to build capacity across the team

    Qualifications

    • Proven experience in grant writing, fundraising, or nonprofit development
    • Strong research, writing, and editing skills with attention to detail
    • Ability to translate program outcomes into persuasive narratives
    • Knowledge of nonprofit funding sources and grant application processes
    • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
    • Collaborative leadership style with excellent communication skills
    • Passion for MAP’s mission and commitment to equity and youth empowerment

    Commitment

    • Volunteer role, approximately 5–10 hours per week
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
    • Remote with flexible scheduling
