    Hospice Pet Therapist Volunteer Needed In King County

    Our Pet Therapist volunteers work alongside hospice professionals to bring smiles, calm, and connection during life’s most challenging moments-helping to reduce stress, ease anxiety, and brighten the days of those we serve.

    What You’ll Do:

    • Visit patients with your trained therapy pet to provide companionship and emotional support
    • Assist with calming and uplifting activities using your pet’s presence
    • Offer relief and joyful distraction to families and caregivers
    • Collaborate with the hospice care team to tailor visits to patients’ needs and preferences

    Full Volunteer Role Description

    Summary:

    As a Hospice Pet Therapist Volunteer, you provide comfort and emotional support through pet therapy visits in home, inpatient, or respite settings. You work under the guidance of the Volunteer Coordinator and hospice care team to enhance quality of life for patients and families.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Conduct regular pet therapy visits with patients and families, adhering to safety and infection control protocols.
    2. Serve as a compassionate companion, offering calm and joy through your pet’s presence.
    3. Communicate openly with hospice staff and report on visits and patient responses.
    4. Attend volunteer training sessions focused on hospice care and pet therapy best practices.
    5. Maintain documentation as required while respecting patient confidentiality.
    6. Participate in volunteer support meetings and continuous learning opportunities.
    7. Follow all health and safety requirements established by Heart’n Soul Hospice.

    Qualifications and Skills:

    • A well-socialized, trained, and certified therapy pet
    • Compassionate, patient, and comfortable working with seriously ill individuals
    • Completion of Heart’n Soul Hospice volunteer orientation and pet therapy assessment
    • Reliable transportation to patient homes or care facilities
    • Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary hospice team
    • Current Vaccination Documents
    • Pet Therapy Certificate
