Assist Second Harvest's Food Sorting Team

Roll up your sleeves and get ready to join us in the warehouse! Our Food Sorting Team is looking for enthusiastic individuals to work alongside them as we sort through donated products from retail stores and food drives.

Serving in our food sorting operation gives you a unique opportunity to directly impact the lives of our neighbors. You will help ensure that our partner agencies receive safe, healthy products to distribute to our neighbors who may need a little extra support these days. Across our 18-county service area, we have over 500 partner agencies, which are organizations like pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters. Our warehouse moves about 35-40 tons of food per day, and we need volunteers like you to ensure that movement!

    Activity Summary:

Volunteers will help inspect, sort, and pack donated foods. These donations are received from grocery partners, food drives, and more. This food is then made available to our neighbors through our network of food assistance programs. Work may include assembling, lifting up to 30 pounds, standing, bending, stooping, reading small print, working in a high-speed environment.

    Requirements:

    • Closed-toe shoes required
    • Dress comfortably (jeans and t-shirt are just fine). No tank tops or crop tops. Clothing should be without offensive language or inappropriate designs.
    • No personal food or drinks allowed out in the warehouse
    • No earbuds due to safety concerns in a warehouse environment and nearby forklift traffic
    • Volunteers must be at least 12 years old to volunteer. Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult or guardian; there must be a ratio of at least 1 adult to 5 youth between the ages of 12 - 15.
    • Volunteer information forms for youth under age 18 must be signed by a parent

    Volunteer Shifts:

Shifts are Monday-Friday, 9am-1pm or 2pm-4pm, except when the organization is closed. You must arrive 15 minutes prior to your shift to check in with the front desk; we cannot accommodate late arrivals. If you will need proof of your hours, you must let the front desk know.

Again: You must register through Bloomerang using the link below and select the Food Sorting and Egg Grading opportunity in order to sign up.
