Executive Assistant to the Head of Strategy

The Head of Strategy at OpenGov Africa works across multiple initiatives, teams, and partners to drive alignment, execution, and long-term impact. To support this work, we are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Executive Assistant to the Head of Strategy.

This role goes beyond traditional administrative support. You will be a trusted partner responsible for documentation, coordination, and follow-through, ensuring that strategic discussions, decisions, and action items are properly captured, organized, and executed. You will help the Head of Strategy stay focused on high-impact priorities by bringing structure, clarity, and consistency to daily operations.

    What You’ll Do

    • Manage the Head of Strategy’s schedule, priorities, and reminders
    • Own and maintain strategic documentation, including meeting notes, strategy briefs, action trackers, and decision logs
    • Track action items from meetings and ensure timely follow-up across teams
    • Draft, edit, and organize internal and external communications such as emails, updates, and partner outreach
    • Maintain well-structured document repositories and ensure information is easy to find and kept up to date
    • Coordinate with volunteer teams and team leads across different functions
    • Support research and information gathering to inform strategic work
    • Anticipate administrative and coordination needs and recommend improvements to workflows and documentation systems

    What We’re Looking For

    • Strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail
    • Excellent written communication and documentation skills
    • Proven ability to turn discussions into clear, structured written outputs
    • High level of discretion when handling sensitive or confidential information
    • Proficiency with collaboration and documentation tools such as Google Workspace and Discord, with willingness to learn GitHub if unfamiliar
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, distributed, and volunteer-driven environment
    • Interest in governance, civic engagement, or Africa’s development is a strong plus

    What You’ll Gain

    • Direct, day-to-day collaboration with the Head of Strategy
    • Exposure to high-level strategic planning and decision-making
    • Opportunity to strengthen operational and documentation systems in a growing pan-African civic organization
    • Experience working within a global, mission-driven community
    • Develop high-level organizational, strategic, and leadership support skills
    • Expand your global network in governance, civic tech, and advocacy
    • Gain experience that stands out on any professional or leadership path
    • Contribute meaningfully to building a people-powered movement for Africa’s future
