Event Project Coordinator for Ridge to Ridge Run Fundraiser

Event: 1st Annual Ridge to Ridge Fun Run & Nature Hike

Date of Event: May 9th, 2026 Location: Walnut Creek Open Space

Benefit: All proceeds support the SLIA Youth Leadership Team

Compensation: $500 - $750 Stipend (negotiable based on responsibilities and availability)

    The Opportunity

We are looking for a motivated, organized, and reliable leader to join our team as the Event Project Coordinator for the Walnut Creek Ridge to Ridge Challenge Inaugural Youth-Led Adventure Fundraiser. Working closely with our SCOCO and SLIA team, you will be the "glue" that helps us build the foundation for this regional community tradition.

Because this is a major fundraiser for the Sustainable Contra Costa (SCOCO) SLIA Youth Leadership Team, we want it to be welcoming to people from across the county and beyond. This isn't a competitive race—it's a multi-level nature hike designed for different abilities to enjoy the beautiful ridges together. We need a coordinator who can keep our village of supporters organized, inspired, and on schedule as we bring this vision to life for the very first time.

    How You’ll Help the Team

    • Keeping Us Connected: You’ll be the point person for our planning team—scheduling our regular get-togethers, taking clear notes so nothing falls through the cracks, and sending out friendly updates on our next steps, tasks, and timelines.
    • Trail Logistics: Work alongside the team to handle the practical side of the event, like coordinating permits and ensuring our various hiking routes—from easy walks to more challenging ridge climbs—are clearly marked and safe for everyone.
    • The "How do we fit everyone?" Plan: Help us figure out the best way to handle parking and participant flow in the open space areas so the day feels seamless and relaxed for hikers coming from all over the county.
    • Spreading the Word: Collaborate with the team on event promotion to attract hikers and supporters from throughout Contra Costa County.
    • Coordinate Volunteers: You will oversee the recruitment & orientation of volunteers to build a solid Trail Crew who are excited to help with registration, trail guidance, and cheering. You will manage the real-time supervision of volunteers to ensure seamless event execution and a high-quality experience for all participants.
    • Event Day & Storytelling: Be the go-to person on the ground on May 9th. Beyond managing logistics, you’ll help us capture the "story" of the day by ensuring we get photos, testimonials, and highlights to share with our community afterward.
    • Staying on Track: Keep an eye on our main "to-do" list, making sure our supplies and vendors are organized and the team knows what needs to happen as we head toward the big day.

    What We’re Looking For

    • A Reliable Partner: You’re someone who follows through and enjoys being organized. You help others stay on track without making it feel like "work."
    • A Great Communicator: You’re comfortable sending warm, clear emails, facilitating a meeting, and keeping the team updated with actionable notes.
    • A Practical Thinker: You enjoy the "common sense" side of events—like figuring out parking logistics or how to manage different hiking levels on the trail.
    • Mission-Driven: You care about sustainability and youth leadership and are excited to work with the SCOCO and SLIA team to ensure their growth.

    Time Commitment & Compensation

    • Duration: Immediate start through mid-May 2026.
    • Hours: Approximately 5-10 hours per week, including our team meetings and administrative follow-up.
    • Stipend: A total stipend of $500 - $750 (negotiable based on responsibilities and availability) is provided as a "thank you" for the leadership and heart you’re bringing to this inaugural year.

    Why Join Our Village?

    • Be a founding member of a brand-new Contra Costa community tradition.
    • Directly empower the next generation of leaders through the SLIA Youth Leadership Team.
    • Work with a supportive team that feels more like a family than a workplace.

Sustainable Contra Costa is a nonprofit that promotes solutions and mobilizes actions that support ecosystems, save resources, and reduce waste to create healthy, resilient communities. We are a community of civic leaders, educators, activists, practitioners, and individuals united by our commitment to a world where everyone can thrive within the natural limits of our planet.
