    Description

Help Stop Elder Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation in Louisville!

Help Stop Elder Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation in Stark County!

In Stark County, there are over 2,000 individuals (wards) under the care of a court-appointed guardian. The majority of these individuals are seniors or adults with physical or mental disabilities who are unable to make decisions about their health and living situation. To ensure their well-being, Court Angel volunteers visit these individuals in their homes (including nursing homes, group homes, and private residences), aiming to bring some joy into their day while also checking for potential signs of abuse, neglect, and exploitation. They ensure that the wards receive the care they are supposed to receive from their guardians and caregivers.

Many of our wards lack family or friends to visit them, so Court Angels fill that void. Court Angels have complete flexibility to choose who, where, and when to complete a visit. Visits take anywhere from half an hour to 2 hours. Volunteers typically conduct 3-4 visits per month, but there is no minimum to stay active.

To become a Court Angel, applicants undergo a background check, watch a training video, and shadow court staff members on ward visits.

Individuals should possess good communication and listening skills, exhibit friendliness and common sense, be willing to use the provided reporting form, and have a genuine desire to ensure that individuals with serious mental or physical disabilities receive high-quality care.
