    Description

    If you enjoy talking on the phone, and have time to make a few calls, you may be a perfect Bereavement Telephone Assurance (BTAP) Volunteer. Volunteers make phone calls to bereaved family members after a hospice patient's death.

    VITAS Bereavement volunteers make a real difference in the emotional and spiritual stability of our patients’ families. Trained bereavement volunteers are assigned families to call each week. Calling can be done on your own time, from your home. Calls must be made every week. It takes about 1 hour each week.

    VITAS Volunteer orientation is provided free of charge to help you learn the skills required to be a hospice volunteer. Additional training is provided about the stages of grief, how to communicate and encourage the bereaved, and how to recognize complicated grief. Volunteers work with the support of VITAS’ manager of volunteers, bereavement manager to provide a caring presence to a grieving individual. Time and dates are ongoing and flexible. You must be at least 18 years or older.
