    Description

    About the Role

Visitor Experience Volunteers play a key part in creating a warm, friendly atmosphere at our Window on Wildlife reserve. You’ll be the first point of contact for visitors, helping them feel welcome, informed, and excited about the wildlife on their doorstep. This role is perfect for anyone who enjoys meeting new people, wants to gain experience in a visitor facing environment, or simply loves nature and wants to support their local reserve.

    What You’ll Be Doing

    • Greeting visitors as they arrive and helping them feel at home in the centre
    • Providing basic information about the reserve, its wildlife, it’s history and what’s happening that day
    • Supporting staff during events, activities, and open days
    • Helping maintain a positive, inclusive atmosphere for all visitors
    • Assisting with simple tasks around the visitor centre as needed

    What We’re Looking For

    • Friendly, approachable people who enjoy talking to others
    • A welcoming attitude and willingness to help
    • Reliability and good communication skills
    • Enthusiasm for wildlife, nature, or community engagement (no expertise needed)
    • Volunteers of all ages — young people especially encouraged to apply

    Availability

We are open: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday

We are particularly seeking volunteers who can help on:

    • Wednesdays
    • Saturdays

Shifts are 3 hours long, and you can volunteer weekly, fortnightly, or whatever suits your schedule.

    Travel Information

    • A bus service runs close to the reserve Monday–Friday
    • Volunteers helping on Saturdays will need their own transport, as no bus service operates that day

    What You’ll Gain

    • Experience in customer service and visitor engagement
    • Confidence working with the public
    • Opportunities to support events and activities
    • A chance to meet new people and be part of a friendly team
    • The satisfaction of helping others connect with nature
    • Full training provided — no prior experience required

    Who This Role Suits

    This role is ideal for:

    • Young people looking to build skills for future jobs
    • Students seeking experience for CVs or coursework
    • Anyone who enjoys meeting people and supporting their community
    • Nature lovers who want to give back
    • Retirees or adults of any age who want a sociable, meaningful volunteering role
