Director of the Storytelling for Refugees & Migrants

Volunteer | Remote | 5 hours per week

    Reports to: Executive Director

Works closely with: Creative Producer (Mentor), Project Manager, Storytelling contributors

    Who We Are

At Creshendo, we believe that everyone deserves a chance to belong, rebuild, and rise. We co-create solutions with displaced communities—always listening, collaborating, and centering lived experiences. Fueled by integrity, empathy, and curiosity, we're building innovative and inclusive programs that reimagine what's possible for displaced people everywhere. If you're excited to challenge the status quo and help transform lives, you'll feel at home here.

    Why This Role Matters

Creshendo is seeking a pro bono Storytelling Director to lead and stabilize our storytelling work during a period of growth. This role is for someone who enjoys bringing structure and clarity to creative teams and understands the responsibility that comes with stewarding real people’s stories.

You will work closely with a Creative Producer, our Executive Director, and a Project Manager to set direction, guide priorities, and ensure our storytelling efforts move forward with intention, care, and consistency.

    What You’ll Be Doing

    • Set the overall storytelling strategy across oral history, written narratives, and social media
    • Provide creative and ethical direction to ensure stories are handled with care, consent, and respect
    • Coordinate across interviews, preparation, editing, and social media presentation
    • Support clear workflows, timelines, and decision-making alongside the Project Manager
    • Align contributors into a cohesive and sustainable storytelling system
    • Participate in weekly or bi-weekly team check-ins

    Who This Role Is For

You might be a great fit if you:

    • Have experience in storytelling, journalism, documentary work, media, or narrative advocacy
    • Are comfortable making decisions in imperfect or evolving environments
    • Lead with empathy while maintaining structure and boundaries
    • Have deep respect for the dignity, safety, and autonomy of people sharing their stories
    • Have experience working with volunteer or cross-time-zone teams (a plus, not required)

We work with a G.Y.S.T. mindset: action over ego, clarity over chaos, and progress over perfection. If you lead with intention and follow through, you’ll fit right in.

    What You’ll Gain

    • Meaningful leadership experience in ethical storytelling and narrative strategy
    • The opportunity to shape how refugee and migrant stories are shared globally
    • Collaboration with a thoughtful, mission-driven creative team
    • Insight into building sustainable storytelling systems within a growing nonprofit
