    Description

    Position Summary:

    We are seeking compassionate, empathetic, and reliable volunteers to make regular check-in phone calls to families and caregivers of hospice patients. As a remote hospice volunteer, your primary role is to offer emotional support, a listening ear, and a caring presence through scheduled phone conversations. You will not provide medical advice or counseling, but rather serve as a comforting connection for those navigating the challenges of end-of-life care.

    Key Responsibilities:

      • Make scheduled check-in phone calls to families and caregivers of hospice patients
      • Provide emotional support, companionship, and a listening presence
      • Document the outcomes of each call according to hospice protocols
      • Report any concerns or urgent issues to the hospice care team
      • Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and hospice policies
      • Participate in initial training and periodic volunteer meetings or check-ins

    Qualifications:

      • Strong communication and active listening skills
      • Compassionate, patient, and nonjudgmental demeanor
      • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
      • Comfortable speaking on the phone with individuals who may be grieving or under stress
      • Reliable access to a phone and a quiet, private space for making calls
      • Basic computer skills for logging calls and communication

    Training and Support:

      • Comprehensive orientation and training provided
      • Ongoing support from the Volunteer Coordinator and hospice team
      • Resources for handling emotional conversations
