    About Us

    Empower Holding Group supports individuals with intellectual disabilities, brain injuries, and mental health concerns. We are a brand-new startup company and are looking for an experience accountant to help build a compliant financial/accounting structure.

    Role Summary

    We’re seeking a CPA‑credentialed volunteer to help strengthen our financial systems and ensure compliance with nonprofit reporting requirements. This role will be instrumental in developing our chart of accounts, managing bookkeeping functions, preparing budgets and reports, and overseeing key year‑end filings.

    Key Tasks

    • Develop and implement a nonprofit‑appropriate chart of accounts
    • Set up and manage bookkeeping processes (QuickBooks or similar)
    • Process journal entries and reconcile accounts
    • Prepare monthly budgets, forecasts, and financial reports for leadership
    • Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
    • Manage year‑end filings, including IRS Form 990 and Iowa HHS / DHS Cost Reporting
    • Advise on internal controls and financial best practices

    Ideal Skills

    • Active CPA credential preferred, or equivalent work experience
    • Experience with nonprofit accounting
    • Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks preferred)
    • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
    • Familiarity with tax code to maximize potential savings
