    About Mentor A Promise

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City nonprofit dedicated to supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability. Through mentorship, literacy development, academic enrichment, social-emotional learning, creative expression, and community-centered storytelling, MAP creates safe, consistent, and empowering spaces where young people and families can thrive.

Promise Multimedia is MAP’s creative production arm, responsible for video, audio, animation, design, and digital storytelling across platforms including YouTube, podcasts, social media, newsletters, and educational media.

    Why This Role Matters

The Promise Multimedia Lead ensures that MAP’s multimedia storytelling is intentional, ethical, consistent, and high-quality. This role exists to protect narrative integrity while guiding creative teams to produce content that reflects dignity, care, and truth—especially when youth, families, and lived experiences are involved.

This is a leadership role centered on direction, mentorship, and quality, not volume or virality.

    What You’ll Do

    • Lead creative direction and production strategy for Promise Multimedia projects.
    • Oversee video, audio, animation, and design workflows across MAP platforms.
    • Support and mentor multimedia volunteers (editors, designers, animators, producers).
    • Collaborate with Program, Education, Communications, and Storytelling teams to align content with mission and goals.
    • Establish clear production standards, timelines, and review processes.
    • Ensure all multimedia content is trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and accessible.
    • Review and provide constructive feedback on drafts, edits, and final outputs.
    • Coordinate publishing schedules across YouTube, podcasts, websites, and social media.
    • Support accessibility practices (captions, subtitles, alt text).
    • Maintain organized asset libraries and documentation.
    • Represent Promise Multimedia in leadership meetings and cross-team planning.
    • Check and respond to emails daily, with responses within 48 hours.
    • Take responsibility for performance improvement by refining systems, workflows, and creative quality over time.

    How MAP Supports You

    • Clear leadership scope and creative authority
    • Collaborative, values-driven leadership culture
    • Respect for time, capacity, and boundaries
    • Thoughtful feedback and trust-based leadership
    • Professional references and letters of recommendation
    • Recognition of leadership as service, not extraction

    What We’re Looking For

    • Experience leading or coordinating multimedia, digital media, or creative teams.
    • Strong understanding of video, audio, and digital storytelling workflows.
    • Ability to guide creative quality while honoring contributor voice.
    • Excellent communication, organization, and mentorship skills.
    • Sensitivity to ethical storytelling and youth-centered narratives.
    • Commitment to inclusive, trauma-informed, mission-driven media.

    Bonus (Not Required)

    • Experience with nonprofit, advocacy, or community media
    • YouTube or podcast production experience
    • Motion graphics, animation, or design background
    • Bilingual or multilingual abilities (Spanish or Haitian Creole preferred)

    Commitment

    • Volunteer role, approximately 5–10 hours per week
    • Minimum 6–12 month commitment preferred
    • Remote collaboration via Google Meet, with optional NYC-based work
    • MAP prioritizes sustainability, clarity, and care over urgency

    What You’ll Gain

    • Leadership experience guiding a nonprofit multimedia division
    • Portfolio-ready creative direction and production work
    • Collaboration with executive leadership and cross-functional teams
    • Professional references and letters of recommendation
    • The opportunity to shape storytelling that honors humanity and amplifies voice
