Bowery Residents’ Committee (BRC) is one of New York City’s largest and most comprehensive social service agencies, committed to supporting individuals who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of becoming homeless. Each day, we see how deeply compassion can transform lives—and it is the generosity of volunteers like you that enables us to fulfill our mission with both heart and impact.
The holiday season is our busiest time of year, and also one of the most meaningful. For many of the individuals we serve, Christmas can be a painful reminder of hardship and loss. Yet with the support of volunteers, it also becomes a moment of comfort, dignity, and genuine human connection.
This year, BRC will host holiday celebrations at multiple locations across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and during the days leading up to the holiday (multiple shifts will be available between December 17 and December 25). These gatherings bring warmth, joy, and a true sense of community to those we serve—and your participation would make an especially meaningful difference.
Activities can include decorating and set-up of the service and dining areas, meal service, and post-meal clean up.
If you’re interested in volunteering, please note that all volunteers must complete the BRC New Volunteer Registration Form (CLICK HERE) and attend a brief orientation session. The sooner you complete these steps, the more opportunities will be available to you. Shifts are filled on a first-come, first-served basis and tend to reach capacity quickly, so early registration is encouraged. By planning ahead, you’ll have the best chance of securing a role that fits your schedule and allows you to make the greatest impact.
Please note:
All interested volunteers are asked to complete a BRC Volunteer Registration Form (CLICK HERE). When you do, please let us know of your interest in holiday or Christmas service—we’re always grateful for those who choose to give their time during such a meaningful season.
Once we receive your form, we’ll share the most up-to-date list of available shift locations, dates, times, and activities. You’re welcome to make your selection then. We do kindly ask that all volunteers attend an orientation session as part of getting started, and we’ll include those dates and times as well.
Thank you in advance for your willingness to help make the holidays brighter for our clients. Your generosity truly makes a difference.
