    Community Mentor

    Position Summary

    Community Mentors support the personal growth and social development of our elementary-aged Dream Scholars. By building meaningful connections and spending quality time together-whether at the park, attending events, or simply sharing a conversation-mentors help students develop confidence, curiosity, and a sense of belonging.

    Purpose of the Role

    The purpose of a Community Mentor is to help Dream Scholars grow socially and emotionally through consistent engagement and shared experiences. Mentors provide one-on-one or small group enrichment that encourages exploration, trust, and personal development.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Community Mentors report to the Mentor Coordinator and are expected to:

    • Participate in activities that encourage connection, confidence, and curiosity among Dream Scholars.
    • Plan or participate in simple outings like reading together, playing outside, or attending events
    • Build strong, consistent relationships through shared interests and experiences
    • Attend a required training session before beginning service
    • Follow the Volunteer Code of Conduct and all IHDF guidelines
    • Share occasional feedback about your mentoring experience to help strengthen the program

    Time Commitment

    One hour per week or commit to attend events as scheduled

    Qualifications

    • Must be 18 years or older
    • Must pass all IHDF screening and background checks
    • Spanish-speaking volunteers are welcome but not required
    • Additional requirements apply if transporting students*
