    Description

    Patient and Family Support Volunteer

Our Patient and Family Support volunteers provide respite, companionship and emotional support to hospice patients and their families/caregivers. Hospice volunteers become part of a compassionate interdisciplinary team that works together to provide support for patients and families at a very difficult time in life. Volunteers receive a combination of online and in-person initial training, plus ongoing supervision, support and training. Requirements include training, background screening, tuberculosis testing and an annual flu vaccine. Specialty volunteer programs include music therapy, pet visits and hair care, all of which require additional licensing and training. Our We Honor Veterans program is conducted by veteran volunteers, with special visits to hospice patients who have served in the military.
