    Director of Human Resources (Volunteer)

    Position Title: Director of Human Resources (Volunteer)

    Organization: Women of Color OnThe Move (WOCOTM)

    Location: Remote / Occasional Local Events

    Time Commitment: 10-15 hours per month

    Reports To: Executive Director and the Board of Director Head of HR

    About WOCOTM

    Women of Color OnThe Move (WOCOTM) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering women, youth, and families through advocacy, leadership development, health and wellness, and social justice initiatives. We foster a culture of inclusion, healing, and growth-particularly for marginalized communities affected by poverty, trauma, and systemic inequities.

    Position Overview

    The Volunteer Director of Human Resources plays a key leadership role in helping WOCOTM build and manage a strong, mission-driven team. This person will provide strategic oversight for human resources functions, ensure HR best practices, and help build an inclusive and empowering workplace culture-supporting both staff and volunteers.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Leadership & Strategy:

    • Provide vision and direction for HR practices aligned with WOCOTM's values and mission.

    • Serve as a strategic HR advisor to leadership on staffing, culture, and people operations.

    • Recruitment & Onboarding:

    • Assist in recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding new staff and volunteers.

    • Develop orientation materials and onboarding processes that reflect organizational culture.

    • Policy Development:

    • Draft, update, and maintain HR policies, including volunteer agreements, confidentiality, and conduct.

    • Ensure alignment with nonprofit regulations and ethical standards.

    • Conflict Resolution & Support:

    • Serve as a confidential resource for staff and volunteers experiencing interpersonal or workplace issues.

    • Help mediate conflict and recommend resolution strategies.

    • Training & Development:

    • Recommend and coordinate volunteer/staff development workshops on topics like DEI, trauma-informed care, and team building.

    • Record-Keeping & Compliance:

    • Maintain secure and organized HR records.

    • Ensure compliance with nonprofit HR laws, confidentiality rules, and WOCOTM guidelines.

    Qualifications

    • Passion for WOCOTM’s mission of uplifting women of color and marginalized communities.

    • 3+ years of experience in HR (volunteer or paid), preferably in a nonprofit setting.

    • Strong knowledge of HR policies, conflict resolution, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

    • Ability to work collaboratively in a remote team environment.

    • Strong written, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, or related field preferred.
