    About Mentor A Promise

    Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. Through mentorship, social-emotional learning, academic enrichment, and creative expression, MAP creates safe, consistent, and empowering spaces for young people to thrive.

    Role Overview

    We are seeking a Volunteer Grants Team Lead to support MAP’s fundraising and development efforts. Working closely with the Director of Grants, this role will help manage the grants pipeline, contribute to proposal development, and ensure timely submissions and reporting. This position is ideal for a strong writer and organizer who wants to grow in nonprofit fundraising and play a key role in advancing MAP’s mission.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Assist the Director of Grants in researching and identifying funding opportunities
    • Draft and edit grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting documents
    • Collaborate with program and finance teams to gather data, budgets, and impact stories
    • Maintain the grants calendar, tracking deadlines, submissions, and reporting requirements
    • Support compliance with funder guidelines and reporting obligations
    • Help manage relationships with foundation, corporate, and government funders
    • Provide mentorship and coordination for volunteer grant writers when needed

    Qualifications

    • Experience in grant writing, fundraising, or nonprofit development (volunteer or professional)
    • Strong writing, editing, and research skills with attention to detail
    • Ability to organize and manage multiple projects and deadlines
    • Familiarity with nonprofit funding processes (preferred but not required)
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
    • Passion for MAP’s mission and commitment to youth empowerment

    Commitment

    • Volunteer role, approximately 5–10 hours per week
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
    • Fully remote with flexible scheduling
