    Description

Plant 100 Hectares, Support 100 Families in Choco Colombia

    BACKGROUND:

With an average of 1.7 billion hectares of treeless land across the planet where trees could be planted, ecological restoration is one of the top climate-change solutions and Sustinere Global is working to plant 4 billion trees by 2030 to combat climate change and loss of biodiversity.

    PROJECT:

Sustinere and its partners' reforestation project is in the Choco, Colombia, one of the world's most biodiverse areas, with more than 8,000 species of plants and 600 species of birds. In the 2000s, the Choco suffered 60% of the deforestation in Colombia, due to mining and logging. In addition to environmental and biodiversity degradation, the Choco faces unique economic challenges as 85% live below the poverty line, with a 32% illiteracy rate, and only 38% of teenagers going to high school. Women and girls are particularly affected, as 40% of households are single mothers. The project will restore 100 hectares of forest that will benefit 100 families with fruit trees and medicine plants. The forest will absorb 15,000 tons of carbon, and we will create a group of 50 women entrepreneurs.

    VOLUNTEER'S ROLE:

    (a) Communications & Digital Marketing Officer

The aim of the Communications & Digital Marketing Officer role is to promote visibility and engagement for Sustinere in traditional and social media. By using your creative communication skills, you will create posts on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Website, Email Marketing), conduct outreach with media partners (social media influencers, magazine publishers, radio hosts and TV stations) and engage the public (particularly on digital media and email communications) to generate goodwill and followers for the project and organization. Moreover, you will be asked to apply your communications skills by developing a marketing strategy to support the sustainability of your inputs.

    (b) Climate Finance Researcher

The aim of the Climate Finance Researcher is to expand our pipeline of project finance sources from corporate investors, donors and others. You will research and create a database of individual investors with potential interest in climate finance. You will develop a template for the organization's climate finance strategy. You will support in writing proposals, applications and letters of inquiry to private investors for environmental and reforestation programs. You will expand Sustinere's revenue pipeline through prospect identification, research, and strategic outreach. Eventually, you will train Sustinere staff in understanding the new climate finance model.

For both Volunteer roles, the Volunteer will be well supported by the Sustinere project partners, all eager to collaborate with you to advance reforestation and climate action initiatives.
