    Description

    Board Treasurer (Volunteer Position)

Break Free: Mental Health, Healing & Hope for Survivors is seeking a committed and detail-oriented Board Treasurer to support the financial stewardship of our survivor-founded nonprofit. The Treasurer plays a critical role in ensuring the organization’s financial health, transparency, and sustainability as we expand survivor-centered programming and community education.

Because Break Free is in an early growth phase, we are currently operating as a working board.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Overseeing the financial affairs of the organization in collaboration with the Board and Founder
    • Reviewing monthly financial statements, budgets, and cash flow
    • Supporting the development and monitoring of the annual budget
    • Ensuring appropriate financial controls, policies, and compliance with nonprofit regulations
    • Assisting with grant tracking, financial reporting, and audit or review processes as needed
    • Providing clear, accessible financial updates to the Board to support informed decision-making

    Ideal candidates have:

    • Experience in finance, accounting, bookkeeping, or nonprofit financial management
    • An understanding of (or willingness to learn) nonprofit financial governance and 501(c)(3) compliance
    • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to transparency and ethical financial practices
    • A collaborative, mission-driven mindset and respect for trauma-informed values

Time commitment: Approximately 3–6 hours per month, including quarterly Board meetings.

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping ensure survivors have continued access to safe, supportive, and empowering resources.
