Spanish Proofreader

Readeezy, a digital library for struggling teen and older readers, is seeking an experienced and judicious Spanish Proofreader to help us review translations of 3,500-4,000 word books from English to Spanish.

This is an opportunity to help English-language learners, immigrants, youth with learning and developmental disabilities, and at-risk youth. If you are a skilled and trained translator/Spanish speaker who is passionate about and are interested in supporting this literacy cause, please reach out!

About our Readers

Readeezy’s target audience consists of struggling, disabled older readers; therefore, we focus on publishing high-interest, low-reading-level stories that have illustrations on every page. These types of stories are engaging for their age group and can be easily read and understood by them. Unfortunately, a lot of books that are accessible to struggling readers are tailored towards elementary students. Older students are not interested in the juvenile content of these books, which leads to them refusing to read, which leads to them continuing to struggle. Our vision is to create a digital library that will help them enjoy the activity of reading again.

Readeezy stories are 3,500-4,000 word stories written at a 3rd or 4th grade level with 5-6 chapters.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Translation, with a specialization in Spanish, or a credible certification as a translator or editorial experience in Spanish fiction
• 2+ years of experience with written U.S. Spanish translation (for those with translation backgrounds)
• Must provide relevant samples of translation/Spanish narrative work
• Must be fluent in both Spanish and English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills in both languages
• Must have a personal interest in literacy, illustrated chapter books, and/or publishing
• Must have strong leadership, instructional and organizational skills for effective collaboration with interns and team members
• Be available to do weekly check-ins with interns and team

What to Expect

• Assist with proofing the translation of 3,500-4,000 word books from English to U.S. Spanish.
• Ensure correct and culturally appropriate interpretations of stories for proper comprehension of Spanish-speaking readers.
• Adherence to source material, style guide, and other instructional material.
• The ideal volunteer has proficiency in both Spanish and English, with proven experience on maintaining accuracy, faithfulness, and clarity in story translations.
• Maintain regular communication with Readeezy team, providing timely updates and evaluations of interns’ work
