    About the organization:

    Jamaica Independence Foundation, Inc. (JIFI~NYC), is a 501(c)(3) accredited not-for-profit /NGO entity and was created to advocate for (a) women in crisis situations, (b) amateur youth athletes from Jamaica playing sports in the U.S., and (c) underserved communities.

    Our members are all volunteers with diverse industry background, but all of whom share one common goal, which is to give back, do good, and advocate for those who are disadvantaged or who are the most underserved among us.

    JIFI~NYC fundraises on behalf of a diverse array of public charities dedicated to the betterment of our diaspora at home and here in the U.S., as well as our global community.

    Job description:

    The Grant Writer's primary goals are to assist the Jamaica Independence Foundation, Inc., by completing and submitting application(s) (with firm approval from the Board Chair and/or Secretary to ensure quality of work) for private or federal grants that are readily available to the foundation. This will include preparing proposals and completing grant applications to assist the company in obtaining needed finances to continue to support its’ cause.

    We believe that values are imperative to ensure long term, and positive change. If you do not address your core, such as your selflessness, integrity, and work ethic, the true purpose of committing selfless, meaningful, and kind-hearted actions through this company that are reflected onto the lives of others is not achieved.

    We host annual fundraising initiatives and programs, that are designed to highlight our cause, our mission, help empower our diaspora and provide change to those most underserved among us.

    We will be launching program(s) catered towards serving the community within the coming year, in which achieving grants will become imperative to jumpstart our program(s).

    We want to help connect people to one another so that together we may make good things happen, we believe that it is only when we serve others that we find true happiness. Essentially, we are here to serve the community and all that entails.

    Jamaica Independence Foundation, Inc., (JIFI~NYC) is a 501(c)(3) accredited not-for-profit /NGO entity and we are looking for Grant writers and fundraisers who can help us become more expended.

    Responsibilities:

    • Work under the direction of the Executive Director to research grant opportunities.
    • Maintain knowledge of proper protocols and all relevant local, federal, and state guidelines required for the proper proposal submission process.
    • Research and identify available government and private funding opportunities.
    • Work closely with the Executive Director to write grants, draft letters to donors and prepare and submit grant proposals.
    • Assist in calling or scheduling calls to potential individual donors or foundations.
    • Provide administrative support as needed (on a case-by-case basis, dependent on the company’s workload).
    • Highly developed time-management skills.
    • Ability to work independently or on a team.
    • Serve as a liaison between JIFI~NYC and all funding agencies or organizations.
    • Create and maintain funding calendar activities for foundation.
    • Generate revenues for foundation programs and services through submission of researched, well- written, and well-documented fund-raising proposals.

    The Grant Writer's primary goal is to assist the Jamaica Independence Foundation, Inc., by completing and submitting application for private or federal grants that are readily available to the foundation. However, all other responsibilities listed can/will become a part of the normal routine of the volunteer.

    This is an unpaid Volunteer / Intern position.
