Are you passionate about experiential education and the importance of connecting people with nature and the outdoors? Are you looking for a meaningful volunteer opportunity where your time and expertise will be respected and harnessed to create real, positive change in children’s lives, our communities, and our ecosystem? We are seeking creative, collaborative, talented volunteers to help build, deepen and mature our board, with specific experience in facilities/campus master planning, grant/development/advancement, environmental stewardship, or education.
Located on 12 acres of forested wetland and pasture, Cedar River Montessori is an independent, nonprofit Montessori school for students ages 3 through fourteen in Renton, WA. Cedar River Montessori students follow their natural interests as they explore their world, discovering the interconnectedness of personal responsibility, environmental stewardship, and social equity. Students learn how to work independently and collaboratively, experiencing a transformative education as they grow into the next generation of engaged, global thinkers who compassionately challenge the status quo. Founded in 1981, we strive to be a diverse and inclusive community.
Preferred areas of expertise and passion: previous board/leadership experience with knowledge of capital campaigns, real estate, facilities planning, environmental stewardship, or education leadership.
Term runs for three years, with an estimated volunteer commitment of 5-6 hours/month, and 90% of this volunteer position can be done remotely. The Board of Directors meets once per month remotely, with an in-person retreat each fall. The Board of Directors also attends the annual fundraising Gala each spring. In addition, other in-person opportunities to connect with the school community are available and encouraged.
