Overview
High School Success Mentors are caring adults who walk alongside students during one of the most pivotal chapters of their lives. Through consistent, supportive relationships, mentors help teens stay engaged in school, navigate personal and academic challenges, and envision a future filled with purpose and possibility.
This role is ideal for community members, parents, retirees, and volunteers who believe in the power of mentorship, resilience, and legacy-building.
Key Responsibilities
- Build Trust & Accountability:
- Meet weekly with students to offer encouragement, listen deeply, and help them set and pursue goals.
- Support Attendance & Graduation Pathways:
- Help students stay on track with school attendance, coursework, and post-secondary planning.
- Navigate Life Transitions:
- Offer guidance on topics like college, career, relationships, and identity.
- Partner with Families & Staff:
- Collaborate with caregivers and school teams to remove barriers and celebrate progress.
- Model Purposeful Living:
- Share wisdom, life experience, and affirm students’ strengths and dreams.
Qualifications
- Passion for youth empowerment and mentorship
- Strong listening and communication skills
- Ability to commit to weekly check-ins (30–45 minutes per student)
- Background check required (if working directly with minors)
Commitment
- Weekly Mentoring: 1–2 sessions per week, ideally for the full school year
- Training Provided: Orientation plus optional ongoing support
- Flexible Scheduling: During school hours or after-school programs
