Help us build the infrastructure for educational impact!
At KBI, technology isn't just what we teach—it's how we scale our mission. We're looking for a Volunteer Software Engineer who understands that clean code, thoughtful architecture, and reliable systems are what transform educational ambitions into reality for thousands of students.
This is a role for someone who sees engineering as both craft and service. Your development will power the platforms, tools, and insights that help KBI grow, improve, and serve our community more effectively.
What you will do
You will be the architect behind KBI's technical infrastructure. This means developing and maintaining full-stack applications that power our operations, implementing data engineering pipelines that surface insights for better decisions, building scalable backend systems and APIs that can grow with our mission, creating responsive frontend interfaces that delight users, performing data analysis to support organizational learning, and ensuring code quality and documentation so your work empowers others.
You might be a great fit if
You write code with care, thinking about maintainability and impact. You're comfortable across the stack and excited by data challenges. You value clean architecture but also know when to ship fast. You want your engineering work to have direct social impact and believe technology should serve education, not complicate it.
What you will get out of this
This is a chance to build real systems with real users while honing your full-stack and data engineering skills. You'll work on diverse technical challenges—from web applications to data pipelines to analytics—while contributing to educational equity. You'll collaborate with a mission-driven team and see your code directly impact students and educators.
Why this role matters
Every data insight, every smooth user experience, every reliable system we build helps KBI serve our community better. Without dedicated engineering, our ambitious vision stays just that—a vision. Your code transforms educational possibilities into realities for students who deserve access to world-class STEM learning.
