    Description

    Nature Center Engagement Specialist

Love Nature and Enjoy Talking With People?

Become a Nature Center Engagement Specialist with Fairfield County Park District! Whether you're a lifelong naturalist or just starting your journey, this is your chance to be part of a passionate community that’s excited to learn from you-or help you learn more along the way.

You'll join a friendly team of volunteers who help connect visitors to nature through conversation, curiosity, and hands-on experiences.

Don’t just take it from us-here’s what our volunteers have to say:

"I like volunteering because I love nature, the opportunity to keep learning, and being able to share my knowledge with the visitors who come to our parks."

"Volunteering has been an incredibly rewarding experience. It’s also been a great opportunity to involve my family... we’ve made lasting memories together."

"I like volunteering as a way to be involved with nature and learn more about it."

    Typical Volunteer Tasks:

    • Opening and closing the nature center
    • Greeting and engaging with visitors about the park and wildlife
    • Assisting with educational programs, events, and occasional hikes
    • Helping groups stay together and safe during programs

    Schedule and Locations:

    • Most volunteers help about once a month, but more often is welcome!
    • Programs take place at various park locations, mainly Friday-Sunday and some evenings
    • The Mambourg Park Nature Center is typically open Fridays and Saturdays, 10 AM-2 PM

    No experience necessary-just bring:

    • A friendly attitude and a willingness to share or grow your knowledge of nature
    • Comfort working independently or with small groups
    • Patience with downtime between visitors (feel free to read, birdwatch, or enjoy a hobby during slower periods)

Volunteers may be exposed to inclement weather, biting insects, noxious plants, and other risks associated with being in an outdoor setting.

All applicants are subject to a background check.
