    About Operation Horses Heal

Operation Horses Heal (OHH) brings inclusive support to Veterans, active service members, and their immediate families through equine-related activities. Our mission is to create a space where they can relax, rejuvenate, and be themselves, with the hope of improving and enriching their lives while working to reduce Veteran suicide one person at a time.

    Role Overview

Operation Horses Heal is seeking an experienced attorney to join our Board of Directors. The ideal candidate will provide legal guidance on governance, compliance, risk management, contracts, and other matters to support the growth and sustainability of our organization. This individual will play a key role in ensuring OHH operates within legal and ethical guidelines while continuing to expand our programs and services.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide legal oversight and guidance to ensure compliance with nonprofit regulations, governance policies, and ethical best practices.
    • Review and advise on contracts, agreements, and policies related to program operations, partnerships, sponsorships, and liability.
    • Assist with risk management and mitigation strategies, particularly regarding equine-related activities and Veteran support services.
    • Support the development of organizational policies and bylaws to strengthen OHH’s governance.
    • Advise on matters related to intellectual property, employment law, and nonprofit tax compliance as needed.
    • Participate in quarterly board meetings (virtual or in-person) and actively engage in discussions and decision-making.
    • Assist in fundraising, advocacy, and networking efforts to strengthen OHH’s impact and sustainability.

    Qualifications

    • Licensed attorney in good standing with a background in nonprofit law, business law, contract law, or a related field.
    • Experience with nonprofit governance, risk management, and compliance is preferred.
    • Must be a Veteran or currently serving in the US Military.
    • Ability to provide sound legal guidance in a volunteer capacity.
    • Strong communication and collaborative skills, with a commitment to OHH’s mission and vision.

Benefits of Serving on the Board

    • Opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of Veterans and their families.
    • Collaboration with a dedicated team working to expand equine-related programs.
    • Professional networking and leadership development.
