    ELL Intructors

    Position Title: ELL Coach Work Hours: 2-4hours per week | Flexible schedule

    Supervisor: Academics Manager Team: CfWE Team

    Classification: Volunteer Duration: 3 month commitment preferred

    Position Specifications: The ELL (English Language Learner) Coach Volunteer helps adult learners prepare for Citizenship/Immigration & Employment Services.The emphasis of instruction is to provide assistive support to students who want to learn English and become integrated as working citizens of the United States. All levels of ELL classes use the Citizenship: Passing the Test series (New Readers Press, 2009) in combination with EnGen online courseware. Volunteers will lead or assist in teaching small group or one-on-one sessions that focus on everyday communication, workplace language, and cultural understanding. This role is perfect for retired educators, TESOL-certified individuals, or anyone with a passion for language, teaching, and cultural exchange.

    Major Responsibilities:

    • Plan and deliver beginner to advanced-level English lessons tailored to student needs
    • Help learners build confidence in speaking and understanding everyday English
    • Incorporate real-life scenarios, conversation practice, and interactive activities
    • Teach basic grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and sentence structure
    • Adapt instruction for various learning styles and literacy levels
    • Monitor learner progress and provide positive feedback and encouragement
    • Maintain a respectful, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
    • Collaborate with program staff to align lessons with overall learning goals

    Minimum Position Qualifications

    • Experience teaching, tutoring, or working with English language learners
    • TESOL/TEFL certification or related training is a plus but not required
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Patience, empathy, and cultural sensitivity when working with diverse populations
    • Comfortable leading small group lessons or one-on-one sessions
    • Reliable, organized, and able to commit to a consistent teaching schedule

    Training & Support

    • Volunteers receive orientation, access to curriculum and materials, and ongoing support from program staff.
