    Description

    Board Secretary (Volunteer Position)

Break Free: Mental Health, Healing & Hope for Survivors is seeking a committed and organized Board Secretary to support the governance and administrative integrity of our survivor-founded nonprofit. The Secretary plays a critical role in ensuring accurate documentation, effective board communication, and compliance as we expand survivor-centered programming and community education.

Because Break Free is in an early growth phase, we are currently operating as a working board.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Recording and maintaining accurate minutes for all Board meetings
    • Supporting meeting preparation, including agenda coordination and document distribution
    • Maintaining official organizational records and governance documents
    • Tracking board terms, policies, and required annual acknowledgments
    • Assisting with compliance-related filings and recordkeeping as needed
    • Supporting clear and consistent communication among Board members

    Ideal candidates have:

    • Strong organizational and administrative skills
    • Attention to detail and the ability to document discussions clearly and accurately
    • An understanding of (or willingness to learn) nonprofit governance and board operations
    • Comfort with digital document management and virtual collaboration tools
    • A collaborative, mission-driven mindset and respect for trauma-informed values

Time commitment: Approximately 3–5 hours per month, including quarterly Board meetings.

This is an opportunity to help build a strong governance foundation that ensures Break Free can grow responsibly and sustainably while continuing to provide safe, empowering spaces for survivors.
