Girl Scouts of Wisconsin - Badgerland Council & Community Partners

The Girl Scouts of Wisconsin - Badgerland Council and community-based youth-serving organizations and schools are coming together in partnership to develop after-school troop experiences that are site-based. The convenience of these partnership allows troop meetings to take place during the after-school hours and at the partner site. The goal of these partnerships is to bring the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to the girls in our communities every week while supporting these youth-serving organizations.

Position Summary

The Community Partnership Troop Co-Leader is excited to work in the community as a troop leader. They have the enthusiasm and ability to generate girls’ interests and curiosities about the ways that they can discover themselves, connect with others and take action to make the world a better place through Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE). The nature of this position requires the individual to provide direct service to girls, helping them to develop their leadership skills on an individual and group basis.

Responsibilities

• Guide troop meetings during after school hours at a Badgerland partner site
• Follow planned curriculum and detailed notes for program sessions
• Teach the Girl Scout curriculum
• Determine communication plan to parents and caregivers in collaboration with the partner site; deliver appropriate communication
• Plan outings, activities, and events for your troop, as allowed by the specific site
• Support and encourage girls in attaining desired goals and awards
• Encourage parents/ caregivers in your troop to volunteer in support of the troop throughout the academic year; this may include cookie coordinators, drivers, chaperones, or other volunteer needs depending on the troop activities
• Adhere to all policies, standards, and procedures for Girl Scouts of the USA and Girl Scouts of Wisconsin - Badgerland Council, Inc.
• Register as an Adult Girl Scout Member and submit a background check

Volunteer Impact

Community Partnership Troop Co-Leaders support the goal of bringing the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to more girls in our communities. They have the opportunity to mentor and provide a positive influence on young girls to help them become courageous and confident, girls of character.

• Girl Focus - Incorporates girls in the decision-making process and/or design of programs and events
• Leadership - Inspires, encourages, and guides others toward accomplishing troop goals
• Communication - Expresses ideas and facts clearly and accurately
• Organizational knowledge - Recognizes and supports Girl Scout goals, including membership development and retention

Time Commitment & Requirements

• Troop meetings are held weekly at the partner site
• Meetings are 1-2 hours long
• Minimum of 1-year commitment, academic year September 2024-May 2025
• Pass a criminal background check in compliance with GSUSA and Site requirements.

Training & Supervision

• Attend Co-Leader and Volunteer Toolkit training webinars
• Attend local volunteer meetings to network with other leaders, stay up-to-date on policies and procedures, and learn about volunteer education opportunities as well as council and community events.
• Communicate regularly with designated Badgerland Council staff contacts & the partner site contacts
• Be willing to participate in any site-specific trainings
