    About Mentor A Promise

    Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit serving children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability through mentorship, literacy, social-emotional learning (SEL), and creative expression. Our programs are designed to provide stability, emotional safety, and consistent support for young people navigating housing insecurity.

    About the Role

    We are seeking a Volunteer Psychologist to support the development of trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate, and ethically grounded practices across MAP’s programs. This role provides guidance on youth mental health, emotional safety, and best practices for working with children and families experiencing housing instability.

    The Volunteer Psychologist works closely with the Director of SEL & Youth Development, Program Leadership, and Mentor Training teams to help ensure MAP programming reflects research-informed psychological principles and safeguards youth well-being.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide guidance on trauma-informed and youth-centered practices across programs
    • Advise on social-emotional learning strategies and youth mental wellness
    • Support development of mentor training content related to youth behavior, regulation, and emotional safety
    • Offer consultation on challenging youth situations and appropriate response strategies
    • Review program materials to ensure psychological safety and developmental alignment
    • Contribute to policies and practices supporting child safety and ethical care
    • Maintain timely, professional responsiveness via email and chat in Google Workspace

    Qualifications

    • Graduate degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or related field
    • Experience working with children, adolescents, or families
    • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and youth development
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills
    • Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values

    Preferred Skills

    • Experience working with youth experiencing housing instability or trauma
    • Familiarity with SEL frameworks and school-based mental health practices
    • Experience advising nonprofit or educational programs
    • Interest in mentorship and youth development initiatives

    Commitment

    • Volunteer role
    • Approximately 5–10 hours per week
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
    • Fully remote with optional NYC-based collaboration
