    Description

Consider The Homeless is a nonprofit, grassroots organization in Berkeley, CA that is 100% volunteer. We deliver food and survival supplies to unhoused Berkeley residents living on the street, in their car, or in an encampment. We meet people where they are, literally & figuratively. We have a mobile soup kitchen that serves approximately 80 people two evenings a week, rain or shine.

We are in the process of soliciting new members for our Executive Board. This is an exceptional and rare opportunity to be of service to your local community while also gaining invaluable professional experience at a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in a position of significant responsibility. This is a "working" Board in which members actively work in-between meetings to accomplish organizational goals. Board members differ from other volunteers in that they have greater decision-making authority and are legally bound to protect the organization's financial resources.

We anticipate this position will require up to 25 hours per month. Zoom meetings last up to 2 hours, usually once per month (though additional meetings may be needed at times). Additionally, Directors are expected to contribute about 5 hours of work per week *outside* of meetings.

This Board position, focused on Communications & Website, specifically entails:

    Director - Communications & Website

    1. Primary responsibility for communications, including editing and oversight of our website, outreach to the unhoused, potential volunteers, local government and the larger Berkeley community.
    2. May create social media posts, a newsletter and/or write press releases according to your skills and interests
    3. Attends city hall meetings when proposals and budget discussions are relevant to needs of the homeless
    4. Attends meetings with community partners as feasible
    5. Together with other Board members, may monitor organizational email.
