    Description

MENTORS needed for high school students in Mountain View and Los Altos, CA

Volunteer MENTORS are needed at Mountain View High School, Los Altos High School, or Alta Vista High School

Are you passionate about helping others and making a positive impact in your community? Consider becoming a mentor! We are currently accepting applications for mentors on a rolling basis.

Our program is currently seeking individuals age 22 or older who are interested in being matched with a high school student with similar interests at Mountain View High School, Los Altos High School, or Alta Vista High School. As a mentor, you can offer supportive, non-judgmental guidance and encouragement, helping a high school student thrive during this pivotal time in their life.

    Responsibilities:

    • Develop a one-on-one relationship with a high school student at Alta Vista, Mountain View or Los Altos High School.
    • Meet consistently with mentee and cover the cost of any activity you do together.
    • Offer consistency, encouragement, thoughtfulness, empathy and nonjudgmental support
    • Be a positive role model

    What is the time commitment?

    • During the first month of the program, mentors are expected to meet with their mentee once a week. After the first month, meetings should occur twice a month, and a one-year commitment is strongly recommended. The "match meeting" between mentor, mentee, and Mentor Program Manager will kick off the mentor-mentee relationship. From there, you will collaborate with your mentee to determine future meeting locations and times.

What kind of activities can you do with your mentee?

    • Mentors and mentees can do an activity of their choosing (coffee, walk, volunteer, etc), and many also attend mentor/mentee events that MTC organizes and sponsors (e.g. Filoli visit, holiday ornament making, pizza parties, etc.)

What support is available for mentors?

    • Our Mentor Program Managers are available throughout the program to provide ongoing guidance and support. Mentors also have opportunities to connect with one another to share best practices and build skills. In addition, we offer training workshops and knowledgeable guest speakers to support your mentorship journey.

If you're ready to make a difference in the life of a young person and help them achieve their full potential, we encourage you to start your journey as a mentor and apply today!
