    Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth experiencing housing instability through mentorship, education, and community. Our work centers dignity, equity, and accountability—fostering resilience and opening pathways to stability, opportunity, and hope for young people and their families.

    About PromisePublic

    PromisePublic is MAP’s public-facing division responsible for trust-building, transparency, ethical engagement, and community accountability. The division ensures that MAP’s communications, outreach, advocacy, and public presence are accessible, trauma-informed, compliant, and grounded in lived experience.

    Role Overview

    We are seeking a Co-Lead, Public Affairs & Strategic Communications to focus on public messaging, media relations, and external communications strategy. This leadership role helps ensure MAP communicates clearly, ethically, and consistently across public channels while aligning messaging with advocacy and policy priorities.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee public-facing communications and messaging strategy
    • Support media outreach, press materials, and storytelling initiatives
    • Align communications with advocacy and policy priorities
    • Ensure compliance with nonprofit communication standards
    • Collaborate with communications and advocacy teams
    • Maintain timely, professional responsiveness via email and chat in Google Workspace

    Qualifications

    • Experience in communications, public affairs, journalism, or public relations
    • Strong writing, editing, and messaging skills
    • Experience aligning communications with advocacy or policy goals
    • Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values

    Commitment

    • Volunteer leadership role
    • Approximately 5–10 hours per week
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
    • Hybrid / remote, with optional NYC-based collaboration
