    Mission

    Helping You Grow Successfully, Inc. (HUGS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth, families, and communities through education, leadership, training, and advocacy.

    We focus on meeting people where they are — providing support that builds dignity, opportunity, and long-term success.

    Our Programs

    HUGS leads a diverse portfolio of initiatives:

    • Project SHIELD – Anti-trafficking awareness and certification program with individual, chapter, and organizational levels of certification.
    • Roots to Wings – Supporting foster youth transitioning into college by providing dorm kits, mentoring, and logistical support.
    • Journey Bag Drive – Supplying foster youth aging out of the system with essentials for their next stage of life.
    • Scholarship & Education Support – Scholarships, mentoring, and tutoring programs for youth.
    • Golf Fore Youth – Exposing underrepresented youth to golf by financing instruction, equipment, tournaments, and mentorship.

    Board Member Position Description

    Board Members play a key role in advancing HUGS’ mission. Responsibilities include:

    • Providing leadership, governance, and strategic oversight.
    • Reviewing and approving budgets, strategic plans, and policies.
    • Serving on at least one committee (Finance, Development, Programs, or Governance).
    • Representing HUGS in the community and serving as ambassadors for our programs.
    • Supporting fundraising and donor engagement.

    Contribution Requirement: To demonstrate leadership commitment and strengthen fundraising, each HUGS Board Member is expected to make an annual contribution. Our policy is a “Give or Get” of $500 per year — members may either donate directly or raise this amount through sponsorships, donations, or event support.

    Qualifications

    We welcome individuals with diverse experiences and perspectives. Ideal candidates may bring expertise in:

    • Nonprofit management or governance
    • Fundraising and development
    • Finance, accounting, or auditing
    • Marketing, communications, or public relations
    • Community organizing, advocacy, or social services

    Survivors of trafficking, veterans, and individuals from underrepresented communities are strongly encouraged to apply.

    Board Terms / Participation

    • Initial 1-year term, renewable up to 3 terms (6 years).
    • Board meetings are quarterly, conducted primarily via Zoom.
    • Committees meet quarterly or as needed.
