In Love Your City, a team mobilizes young volunteers to walk into hurting neighborhoods each week and build relationships with every resident. These young leaders talk with community residents to identify the obstacles that keep the youth and families living there from reaching their dreams. Community members, team members and volunteers then co-create mentoring and small group-based solutions that help youth and families graduate from school and go on to meaningful employment. These solutions include job skills training, language classes, tutoring centers, college prep, and much more. Very quickly, leaders rise from within the community itself to lead the efforts, allowing Love Your City to scale to new neighborhoods.
What to expect on a Saturday:
First, we meet as a team of superheroes, I mean... volunteers, to get to know each other and talk about the day.
Then, we split into smaller teams and go into the communities for walkthroughs and tutoring.
Finally, we as volunteers go and have lunch together to debrief the day and get to know each other better.
