The Direct Patient Volunteers are individuals that proivde basic care, comfort, companionship to those on hospice which may consisit of reading to patient, watching tv, playing games, sitting with, etc. or respite which is sitting with the patient while the caregivers have a break to take a nap, do errands, work in the yard, etc. directly to patients
Essential Volunteer Responsibilites
- Adheres to the organizations documentation and care procedures and standards of personal and professional conduct
- Adheres to company policies and procedures when dealing with patients, families and patient information including HIPAA.
- Adheres to Plan of Care visit schedule and reports any anticipated changes to Volunteer Coordinator as soon as possible
- Understands and maintains boundaries based on parameters set for Volunteers
- Seeks and accepts guidance from Hospice or Facility staff
- Reports any patient concerns to Volunteer Cooridnator or RNCN immediately
- Completes a Volunteer Note upon completion of each day, documenting their time and activities and turns into the Volunteer Coorindator
Qualifications
- Ability to work as a team member
- Knowledge and commitment to hospice philosophy and HIPAA regulations
- Demonstrates good verbal and written communication, and organization skills
- If transporting patients, must be a licensed driver and provide a copy of their current license and proof of insurance to keep on file
- If providing services such as Pet Therapy, Massages, Haircuts etc. will need to provide a copy of their current license or certification to keep on file.
