    Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit serving children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability through mentorship, literacy, academic enrichment, social-emotional learning (SEL), and creative expression.     About the Department of Assessment, Learning Outcomes & Impact

    The Department of Assessment, Learning Outcomes & Impact sits at the intersection of PromiseLearning (Education)and the Data & Research Division. The department ensures that educational programs are evaluated thoughtfully, student growth is tracked responsibly, and outcomes are communicated clearly to funders, partners, and stakeholders—without compromising dignity or trust.

    Role Overview

    We are seeking a Director of Educational Impact & Outcomes to lead MAP’s learning assessment and program evaluation strategy. This senior leadership role designs assessment frameworks, oversees program evaluation, and ensures impact reporting supports continuous improvement and responsible accountability.

    The Director works closely with the Chief of Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Afterschool & Enrichment, SEL & Youth Development, and Data & Research leadership to align assessment practices with instructional goals, trauma-informed values, and external reporting requirements.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Design and oversee learning assessment frameworks aligned with MAP curriculum and SEL goals
    • Ensure assessment practices are developmentally appropriate, non-punitive, and trauma-informed
    • Lead program evaluation to inform continuous improvement across education programs
    • Support responsible tracking of student growth and learning outcomes
    • Collaborate with program and curriculum leaders to interpret and apply findings
    • Oversee impact reporting for grants, funders, and external stakeholders
    • Ensure alignment between educational data, evaluation practices, and compliance requirements
    • Partner with Data & Research teams to ensure methodological rigor and ethical use of data
    • Maintain timely, professional responsiveness via email and chat in Google Workspace

    Qualifications

    • Experience in educational assessment, program evaluation, or learning outcomes
    • Strong understanding of data-informed improvement in education settings
    • Experience designing assessment frameworks or evaluation tools
    • Ability to communicate findings clearly to diverse audiences
    • Strong collaboration skills across education, research, and operations teams
    • Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values

    Preferred Skills

    • Experience in nonprofit education, youth development, or research settings
    • Familiarity with grant reporting and stakeholder accountability
    • Experience with non-punitive, strengths-based assessment models
    • Background in education research, evaluation, or applied learning sciences
    • Experience supporting cross-functional or shared-governance teams

    Commitment

    • Volunteer senior leadership role
    • Approximately 5–10 hours per week
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
    • Fully remote with optional NYC-based collaboration
