Who We Are
Unruled Masses is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public-interest intelligence organization focused on exposing corruption, abuse of power, and systemic exploitation—while helping communities peacefully reclaim agency, accountability, and civic life.
We combine rigorous intelligence tradecraft with public-facing analysis and real-world civic action. Our mission goes beyond exposure: we aim to help people reconnect and act together. To do this, we must break through the noise of corporate media with visual storytelling that is as "industrial-grade" and professional as our intelligence. We need to turn complex data into visually gripping imagery that moves people from observation to action.
Who You Are
You are a visual communicator who understands that a well-designed graphic can be a tool for justice. You are motivated by truth and have a knack for "democratizing" complex information through art. You are comfortable working with high-stakes themes—like corruption and anti-oppression—and can translate them into bold, modern, and high-impact visuals.
You may be a professional designer, a student building a portfolio, or a creative activist. You believe that anti-corruption intelligence deserves world-class aesthetics. You are disciplined, value collaborative feedback, and want your work to serve a higher purpose than just "content."
What You’ll Do
As a Graphic Designer, you will:
- Create Gripping Visuals: Produce high-quality artwork for our social media platforms (Instagram, BlueSky, LinkedIn, etc) that translates corruption intelligence into shareable, high-impact messaging.
- Support Product & Action Design: Design assets for our "Action Playbooks," research reports, and newsletters to ensure our tools for civic resistance are professional and accessible.
- Visual Narrative & Video Support: Collaborate with the video team to create thumbnails, title cards, and motion graphic assets for our webcasts and documentary-style projects.
- Design Anti-Oppression Imagery: Develop iconography and artwork specifically aimed at countering propaganda, mocking institutional capture, and promoting community agency.
- Brand Stewardship: Ensure a consistent "Unruled Masses" aesthetic—one that feels authoritative, intelligent, and grounded in reality rather than fear.
Exceptional volunteers may:
- Serve as Creative Lead for specific campaigns
- Develop comprehensive visual identity systems for new products
- Collaborate on data visualization and "infographic" storytelling
- Mentor and lead junior designers or contributors
- Assist in setting the artistic direction for global intelligence reports
Design Areas of Interest
We are especially interested in designers who can visually interpret power dynamics in areas such as: Surveillance & Data Exploitation; Policing & Public Safety; Corporate Collusion; Media & Propaganda; Environmental Justice; Digital Algorithms; and Government Transparency.
Ideal Qualifications

- Strategic Thinking: The ability to take a complex research brief on corruption and distill it into a single, powerful image.
- Detail-Oriented: A sharp eye for typography, hierarchy, and brand consistency.
- Mission Alignment: A demonstrated interest in social justice, accountability, or human rights.
- Reliability: Comfortable working remotely and meeting deadlines for rapid-response "Intelligence Alerts."
Compensation & Commitment
This is an unpaid volunteer role. We are flexible on time, but ask for at least 2–4 hours a week to support our ongoing production and action cycles. As funding allows, paid positions or project-based contracts may be offered in the future.
