    Description

Every day, children who have experienced abuse and/or neglect enter the child welfare system through no fault of their own—often scared, confused, and unsure of what comes next. Too many spend months or even years moving between temporary homes, waiting for stability and a safe, permanent place to call home.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) are everyday people who step in to ensure these children are seen, heard, and supported. CASA volunteers are trained and appointed by a judge to advocate for a child’s best interests in court and in the community. They get to know the child, work alongside families and professionals, and help make sure the child has the support and resources they need to thrive and they don't "fall through the cracks."

CASA volunteers typically spend about 5–10 hours per month on their case after completing pre-service training. No legal background is required—just a heart to help and a commitment to showing up for a child who needs you. CASAs are needed in every county in Iowa.
