    Description

We currently have one meal coordinator, and would love to have another to help split the load and give volunteers/coordinators a break as needed!

    PURPOSE OF THE MEAL COORDINATOR:

To serve our neighbors and community that come for a community meal provided by our partner A Better Road Foundation, and coordinated through volunteers from First Covenant Church, Family Values For Life, and other strategic partners. Belonging to a transformative and collaborative church YOU will get to coordinate with a variety of volunteers to make receiving and extending love and providing and tangible impact through a Wednesday evening meal.

    MEAL COORDINATOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Time Commitment 4:45-7:00pm, or until meal and dining space is cleaned up.

Organize 3-6 volunteers each week (Coordinator does not need to be present if there are enough volunteers and volunteers understand their role.)

Recruit volunteers to ensure set up, service, clean up, and reporting are friendly and invitational for all who enter the dining space.

    SET UP:

    • Set up and wash off serving tables and meal tables, varying week to week on building activities.
    • Set out hand sanitizer at the beginning of the serving tables line
    • Use disposable dishware for meals. Subject to change once the volunteer base has grown. See points below.
      • (Put out napkins, silverware, plates, and glasses at the beginning of the serving tables)
      • (Put out dish cart with dish racks for dirty dishes and silverware)
    • Watch the 3 stream garbage (trash, recycling, and organics) and encourage sustainability/eco-friendly efforts.
    • Have highchairs and booster chairs available upon request. (Located on-site.)

    SERVICE:

    • Community with on-site partners about food and keep warm (food is prepared on-site by BRF, and typically ready between 4 - 4:45pm.)
    • Set out food between 5:00-5:20 pm
    • Ensure proper serving utensils are in each serving dish
    • Have one volunteer at each food item to help serve meal recipients
    • Serve meal from 5:30-6:10 pm
    • Use clickers to count adults 18+ years of age and children 17 years of age or younger. (Having two volunteers helps with this to not confuse the clickers between children and adults)

    CLEAN UP:

    • Wash all dishes, serving utensils, etc. and put away
    • Clean off all tables and chairs
    • Wipe off any used surfaces with a cleaning rag
    • Take out the 3 stream trash, recycling, and organics to the appropriate dumpsters
    • Sweep floor and clean up any spills if needed
    • Take home towels and rags to wash and return (may be coordinated with another volunteer)
    • Store leftovers in appropriate fridges or otherwise

    REPORT:

    • Keep track of how many children and adults are served, and how many plates/servings go out. Tracking efforts are used in reports with FVFL and BRF.
    • Note any substantial left overs and report them to leading or partner staff.
