    Board Member

    Position: Board Member

    Reports to: Board President

    Time Commitment: Approximately 10 hours per month

    About JAMP

    Japanese American Memorial Pilgrimages (JAMP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to providing resources, education, and support to the Japanese American community. Through pilgrimages to sites of significance and online resources, JAMP promotes healing and uplifts the voices of Japanese Americans.

    Position Overview

    Board members provide governance oversight, strategic guidance, and active support to advance JAMP's mission. Members serve as organizational ambassadors by participating in decision-making and supporting fundraising initiatives.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Leadership & Governance
      • Uphold JAMP's mission, vision, and values
      • Attend at least two board meetings annually
      • Participate in strategic planning and organizational development
      • Ensure adherence to bylaws and organizational policies
    • Financial Stewardship
      • Exercise fiduciary responsibility in organizational oversight
      • Make a personally meaningful annual financial contribution
      • Participate in fundraising activities and donor cultivation
      • Help ensure the organization's financial stability
    • Community Engagement
      • Serve as an ambassador for JAMP in your communities
      • Promote JAMP's programs and initiatives
      • Support advocacy efforts with stakeholders, policymakers, and the public
      • Assist in identifying and recruiting potential partners and supporters
    • Participation
      • Actively engage in committee work
      • Review materials prior to meetings
      • Attend special events when possible
      • Contribute to board member recruitment and orientation

    Term of Service

    Board members serve 1-year terms with the possibility of reappointment. Members unable to fulfill responsibilities may be asked to step down to make room for more active participants.

    • Passion for Japanese American history, education, and community-building
    • Commitment to JAMP's mission of education, connection and healing
    • Willingness to leverage personal and professional networks on behalf of the organization
    • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
    • Integrity, accountability, and sound judgment

    Code of Conduct

    Board members act with integrity, maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, disclose any conflicts of interest, and work collaboratively with fellow board members and staff.
